The Director of ICGEB Cape Town will be of international scientific standing and possess academic excellence, institutional management expertise, familiarity with Africa’s biotechnology context, a proven capacity to network across the African stakeholder community and to raise additional funds. An active, well-funded, personal research programme pursued in one of the focus areas of the ICGEB is also essential. 

The post is full-time and will be offered as a 3-year contract, renewable subject to performance, and will foresee an attractive salary package within the United Nations Common System at a level commensurate with the incumbent’s qualifications and experience, including participation in an international pension fund and health insurance.

The Director of ICGEB New Delhi will be of international scientific standing and possess academic excellence, institutional management expertise, familiarity with India’s biotechnology context, a proven capacity to network across the international stakeholder community and to raise additional funds. An active, well-funded, personal research programme pursued in one of the focus areas of the ICGEB is also essential. The incumbent will establish effective interactions with governments of ICGEB Member States, international institutions and the scientific community worldwide, while demonstrating experience in translating scientific research into innovation and commercialisation.

The post is full-time and will be offered as a 5-year contract, renewable subject to performance, and will foresee an attractive salary package within the United Nations Common System at a level commensurate with the incumbent’s qualifications and experience, including participation in an international pension fund and health insurance.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE AND JRF POSITIONS in the Structural and Computational Biology Group starting 1st March 2015. Collaborative projects include work on: 

a) bioinformatics, systems and computational biology 
b) malaria 
c) drug discovery 
d) genomics 
e) microbiology 
f) metabolic disorders 
g) molecular medicine 

Eligibility: Applicants must have one of the following : 
1) INSPIRE award for undertakig either PhD or Postdoctoral research; 
2) SPM award for PhD; 
3) JRF for pursuing PhD from CSIR/DBT/ICMR 
Interest and experience in Biochemistry/Bioinformatics/Biophysics/Chemistry/Genomics/Molecular Biology/ is essential.

PROCUREMENT MANAGER

The ICGEB’s New Delhi Component is seeking to appoint a Procurement Manager; the position requires an experienced procurement expert to oversee and develop the function in a large hands-on scientific research facility.

Duties include:

  • Planning, co-ordinating and implementing all functions relating to procurement requests, soliciting  local and international quotations;
  • Developing and maintaining a roster of local and international vendors;
  • Undertaking all functions relating to the import of foreign equipment and supplies, and managing related functions with Customs agents and Indian government agencies;
  • Researching products, equipment and supplies markets;
  • Inventory management and stocktaking procedures;
  • Managing/supervising a small team of procurement staff;
  • Acting as focal point for the Component’s equipment and supplies committees.

Candidates should be graduates with a minimum of 7 years' experience, have excellent software skills and experience, and excellent verbal and written communications skills in Hindi and English.

The ICGEB operates under the Common System of the United Nations, and applies the UN standards to salaries, allowances and benefits for its staff.
