Return Grant

During the 2004-2005 academic year, ICGEB has launched a new funding opportunity which is exclusively dedicated to ICGEB Postdoctoral fellows with the aim of combining the need to guarantee that the knowledge and skills acquired at ICGEB be transferred back to the ICGEB Member States.

During the second year of postdoctoral research, the fellow's performance will be assessed to consider the possibility of a "Return Grant" being awarded upon completion of the period of study, subject to the fellow's return to his/her home country.

Failure to return to the home country within 3 years from the commencement of the fellowship, will cause the fellow to lose the grant entitlement. Fellows originating from the host countries (Italy, India and South Africa) are not entitled to the "Return Grant".

In order to ensure that the applicant will be in a position to undertake the activities foreseen by the project financed with the Return Grant, he/she will be required to supply written evidence by his/her Home Institute, through which the latter is committed to provide the applicant with a position, laboratory space and matching funds upon his/her return to the home country, for at least the entire duration of the grant. This is an essential requirement in order to guarantee that the training and the knowledge acquired will be brought back by the postdoctoral fellow to his/her home country.
ICGEB may assist its former fellows upon return home by purchasing the most urgently required material through the funds awarded with the Return Grant.

The Return Grant proposal will be prepared by the fellow and submitted to ICGEB for evaluation.
