The ICGEB aims at strengthening the research capability of its Members through a comprehensive training programme and approach to promoting biotechnology internationally. The active participation of ICGEB Member States nationals in the ICGEB Meetings and Courses is therefore highly encouraged.

For more information on the terms of participation and funding opportunities for this event please access the meeting website or contact the local organisers directly

The aim of this meeting is to build regional capacity in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID), to equip the health sector (private and public) with current concepts and information about emerging and re-emerging diseases from biological roots to global health impact and interventions, involving multiple disciplines.
The Conference will convene researchers, experts and decision-makers from different areas to brainstorm ways to systematically address emerging and re-emerging diseases (and outbreaks) from an interdisciplinary perspective, from the genotypic and phenotypic changes in pathogens to global policy and health systems.
The official language of the course will be English
Course contents

I. General concepts (Emerging Infectious Diseases: Distribution, drug resistance, origin, effects of ecological changes, genotypic and phenotypic changes in pathogen)

II. Epidemiology (Transmission mechanisms, transmission rate, modeling the EID)

III. Detection and discovery of infectious agents associated with emerging diseases (Pathogen detection and discovery)

IV. Emerging and re-emerging diseases from a global perspective (Respiratory diseases, hemorrhagic diseases, neglected diseases)

V. Surveillance Systems (Action plan, national and private surveillance systems, vaccines and therapeutic strategies)

A limited number of grants are available to cover registration fee, accommodation (twin share) and meals for the duration of the Symposium. Travel is NOT funded.

Applicants should be involved in health issues where the potential application of the course contents would be useful. Preference will be given to PhD students, postdoctoral fellows and junior scientists from the Latin American region.

It is required to register and present an abstract on a topic relative to the courses in order to apply for the fellowship grant. The funded fellows will be required to present a poster during the workshop.

Limited places will be available
