Microbes help make hydrocarbons

The Microbial Engineering Group at ICGEB New Delhi, headed by Syed Shams Yazdani also runs the DBT-ICGEB Advanced Bioenergy Research programme. Results recently published in the journal Metabolic Engineering explain how the group has increased the hydrocarbon production rate so that more carbon is available for alkane formation.

The development is being hailed as reporting the highest production levels achieved so far by any microbial source.
