The Government of Namibia has deposited its instrument of accession to the ICGEB Statutes with the Secretary-General of the United Nations in November 2012 and has become the 63rd Member State of ICGEB on 2 December 2012.
At the 18th session of the Board of Governors (16-18 November 2011), the request for Membership from the Governments of Ethiopia and Montenegro were accepted, bringing the total number of ICGEB Signatory Countries to 85.

In addition, it provides a unique intergovernmental forum where policy issues related to biosafety and technology transfer are discussed.
