The ICGEB aims at strengthening the research capability of its Members through a comprehensive training programme and approach to promoting biotechnology internationally. The active participation of ICGEB Member States nationals in the ICGEB Meetings and Courses is therefore highly encouraged.

With many countries in the developing world considering the use of GMOs, this workshop will teach the application of risk analysis principles and processes in regulatory decision-making for the general release of GMOs. Worked examples and practical sessions will involve the evaluation of hypothetical case studies.
Topics
- Introduction to the theory of problem formulation in GMO risk analysis, and its application to specific case studies
- Key issues concerning animal and human health, environment, and socio-economics to take into account during GMO risk analysis and application processing
- Exploration of risk management options
- Risk communication within a regulatory context, and the application of mechanisms and tools
Participants
- Officials and Technical Advisors of National Competent Authorities
- Research Scientists actively developing GMOs for eventual placement on the market
- Preference will be given to participants on the basis of the importance of the training to their daily work lives, with attention to geographical and gender balance
- Participants are recommended to bring their own laptop to facilitate practical work sessions
Funding
- Source - The Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea of Italy (MATTM)
- There is no registration fee for this workshop. Participants are expected to cover their own travel and living costs
- A limited number of grants, covering accommodation (on a twin-share basis) and local hospitality for the duration of the workshop, will be offered to selected nationals of ICGEB Member States, therefore priority will be given to early submissions of complete applications
